i love snow!

i love waking up to this! especially when i don't have to go to work!

i think it's time to get the christmas decorations out, i usually refuse until it's actually december, but i think on a day like this an exception can be made.

and then i'll go wander around the gold course once the snow settles some more and take pictures!! yeah!

musicovery

check out what i've found! musicovery. it's an interactive webradio. you can tick the genres you want then you click somewhere on the mood matrix and presto! you have a flow of fantastic music. or you can just wave your mouse over one genre and the mood matrix shows up. you can specify which decade you want and whether or not you do or do not want 'hit' songs.

this thing is brilliant! i've had it on almost constantly for 2 days and i've discovered so many new and wonderful artists.

recipe of the week: triple chocolate bliss cake.

normally when a recipe calls for 1 box of chocolate cake mix, i quickly turn the page. i like the 'from scratch' sorts as it's really not hard to make a cake mix...but this cake perked my interest and i have to say i'm sorry for my past bias.

cake

1 pkg (2 layer) chocolate cake mix (i used devil food cake)
1C sour cream
1 pkg (4 serving size) jello instant chocolate pudding mix
4 eggs
1/2C veg oil
1/2C water

preheat oven to 350 degree and grease a 12C fluted tube/bunt pan.
mix everything together.
pour into pan.
bake for 45 min-1 hour or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
cool completely on a wire rack

icing

3C thawed coolwhip
1 pkg (8 pieces) semi-sweet baker's chocolate

reserve 2Tbs coolwhip for decorating.
microwave remaining coolwhip and chocolate 1-2 mins and mix well.
pour over cake.
spoon a little blob of coolwhip around the top of cake and drag out edges with toothpick to create a star.

fill the centre with raspberries, i didn't bother.

can we tell who this cake is sponsored by? hurrah for kraft! this cake was so good. i don't have a picture for you because it was all eaten too fast, luckily the kraft website thought ahead. i have to say, my cake looked just as good as kraft's...minus the raspberries.

theft

i stole this link from one of erin's friends...but she stole it from someone so i feel ok about it all.

this site amused me greatly. as much as it made me feel better about the world, it also made me a little sad...

FluidEffect. you need to click on portfolio and then before and after. but the other links are worth a browse as well.

behold the glory of the dragon

i bought a dragon fruit, or pitaya, the other day purely because it was so beautiful.

now i know that buying this fruit contributes to global warming and as much as i try to adhere to the ideals of the 100 mile diet, sometimes you just have to explore other fruits, apples are starting to bore me.

anyhoo, the fruit sorta tasted mildly of melon crossed with gooseberry. it was yum.

recipe of the week: brownies

brownies

1/2C butter, melted
1/4C cocoa
2 eggs
1C granulated sugar
3/4C flour
1/2C chopped walnuts (i used chocolate chips)
1/8 tsp salt

preheat oven to 350 degrees.
grease 8x8 inch pan, or any pan you desire...i used a mini loaf tin.
add cocoa to melted butter, stir until smooth and set aside.
beat eggs til frothy
in medium bowl.
mix sugar, flour, nuts/chips and salt in separate bowl, add to the frothy eggs but do not stir. pour cocoa mixture over top and stir all together.
scrape batter into greased 8 x 8 inch pan and bake for about 30 minutes or until the edges begin to show signs of pulling away from the sides of the pan.

if you want to add some more chocolaty goodness, frost the brownies when they're cool!

icing

1 1/3C icing (confectioners) sugar
1/3C cocoa
3T butter
5tsp hot coffee or water

blend everything together until you get a thick, smooth icing. add more water or sugar depending on desired thickness.

these are so easy and devine!

a horse, a horse! my kingdom for a horse!

i've been meaning to write this post all weekend. go out and see richard III at the Phoenix theatre, UVic. it is amazing! the lead actor that plays richard, trevor hinton, is so talented. this is not an easy character to play and he pulls it off with ease. not to mention his body is a perfectly sculpted specimen...even if he is constantly maintaining the hunched, crippled deformities.

i won't even bother gushing about the other actors, i cannot find flaw with anyone.

the dream sequence when the ghosts of those richard has killed come to haunt his sleep is so magical and eerie.

the battle of bosworth field at the end is stunningly choreographed. if you get tickets, ask for front row so you can be right in the middle of the action! that was the highlight for me.

the times colonist wrote a raving review, read it!

go and see this production, it's only on until dec 2nd. to order tickets call: 250 - 721 - 8000

let this be a lesson to you all

when you place your mobile phone in your purse, be sure to lock the keys.

lydia texted me with a "what's with the blank text?" text. and low and behold, my phone had sent lydia a blank text whilst in my purse. upon further exploration i discovered that it has also send $5 worth of blank texts to alex in england. damn.

i thought that was the end of it. but when i got home i tried to call my dad and recieved the lovely rogers recorded voice 'you do not have enough credit on your phone'. what? wasting $5 plus a little on texts should not send me into the red, i just topped up. then i discovered that my phone called london all by itself while in my purse.

how does this happen? what are the odds of your movments being so exact that your phone is able to select and send a call or text?

damn.

face the fear

i never told you about my adventure on the capilano suspension bridge with alex.

as some of you may know, i am dreadfully afraid of heights. alex, is not. he really wanted to go over the bridge and because i like him enough...i was willing to face my fear.

i was ok with the idea of the bridge. i kept reminding myself that it was no longer the original bridge constructed of hemp rope and cedar planks and that is now made of reinforced steel, safely anchored in 13 tons of concrete on either side of the canyon. i was ok with the bridge until i stepped onto the 5 stairs leading to it and the stairs started wobbling side to side. i promptly jogged back up the stairs and onto solid ground.

alex was not fussed and continued across the bridge, occasionally looking back and trying to wave me over. no bloody way. he even stopped in the middle to look over the edge and take pictures!

alex eventually came back over to be in the hopes of coaxing me across and i'm not sure how he did it, but it happened. i crossed the shaking, wobbling, rocking, narrow, bridge over the HUGE canyon. i would love to insert a lovely photograph of the view, but i can't. my eyes were clamped shut and i was breaking alex's fingers with a death grip as he led me across.

i slightly enjoyed the ewok villiage on the other side. those bridges were not nearly as high or wobbly. there were some nice trails and ponds around and about as well so it wasn't a complete scare fest. the only problem is that i had to cross the bridge a second time. you'd maybe think that since i did it once, i'd be alright...fear conquered! no, no, that wasn't the case. it was maybe a little worse the second time.

big time sensuality

i can't seem to imbed the lovely little youtube screen since switching to beta...so you all need to click the link. it's very worth it!

this may just be the best version of bjork's 'big time sensuality' i've ever heard.

bonfire update

alex and i made a guy fawkes effigy from toothpicks, napkins and matches.

he burned well and bright on the BBQ.

Remember remember the 5th of November,
The Gunpowder, Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, 'twas his intent
to blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below,
Poor old England to overthrow:
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, make the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!
Hip hip hoorah!
A penny loaf to feed the Pope.
A farthing o' cheese to choke him.
A pint of beer to rinse it down.
A faggot of sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar.
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head.
Then we'll say ol' Pope is dead.
Hip hip huzzah!
Hip hip huzzah!

Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot.

doctor, doctor! i have a shooting pain in my head!

i love dressing up for halloween. it really might be one of my favourite holidays, after my birthday and christmas of course.

but nothing beats dressing someone else up as well, even if they were being a whiney baby and complaining i was getting makeup in their eyes when clearly that was not the case....not that i'm naming any names....

i like to call this bonnie and clyde ride again.
